The Lodge of St Giles & St Luke No.6668 Installation Meeting 2022

We at the Lodge of St Giles and St Luke would like to wish all our friends and visitors to our website a very happy new year and look forward to sharing with you our progress and memories this coming year. The last few months have been busy with an organised lunch, which managed to raise money to local charities, taking part in Remembrance Sunday and enjoying two regular lodge meetings which celebrated promotions for some of our members.

We look forward to the year ahead in which we will be celebrating our 75th anniversary and organising more social events.

Installation Meeting

Chris Pampling, Jonathan Stewart Winpenny Award

Many congratulations to our new Worshipful Master, W.Bro Christopher Pampling who was installed into the chair on 10th December 2022. Chris, who is the holder of the “Jonathan Stewart Winpenny Award” for services he has dedicated to Freemasonry, has been a stalwart member of the lodge for the past 10 years, regularly attending lodge of instruction and working hard in every office that he has taken. We wish him and his new officers all the best for the coming year.

This being our 432nd regular meeting, was well attended with 31 members and guests dining at the festive board with a well presented menu of Tomato & Basil Soup for starters, Roast top side of beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes with seasonal veg, followed by Sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The Raffle raised £119 which will be donated to our chosen charity, the Greenwich & Bexley Hospice.

Remembrance Day

Denis Ryder, Ray Armstead, Woolwich Polytechnic Lodge

As has been the custom over the past few years, lodge members W. Bro’s Ray Armstead and Denis Ryder assisted members of Woolwich Polytechnic Lodge in commemorating Remembrance Day at the Woolwich Polytechnic Memorial gates, Well Hall, Kidbrooke. The gates were erected in 1948 in  dedication to the "Poly" men who gave their lives in both world wars. A wreath was laid on behalf of the Lodge of St Giles & St Luke.

Sunday Lunch with friends

Enjoying each other’s company is at the heart of freemasonry. This is not just for our members but also includes our family and friends and back in November this was no exception. A Sunday lunchtime gathering was arranged at Mings of the Avenue in Bexleyheath with 43 diners in attendance, the youngest being just 6 years old. There were plenty of raffle prizes up for grabs and a total of £313 was raised for local charities, BEAMS and Greenwich & Bexley Hospice, a magnificent achievement. The food was great and the company was fantastic. Who could ask for more! We plan on having many more meals like this in the future.

It has been a very busy masonic season so far this year with plenty of work to do. It's also been great to be meeting again and catching up with friends face to face. In December 2021 we held our installation meeting in which the Worshipful Master and his officers from the previous two years were proclaimed to remain in office for the ensuing year. Our last three meetings have been initiations and we will be passing one of our new members to the degree of a Fellow Craft in September. We have an exciting few years ahead of us at the Lodge of St Giles and St Luke with a healthy membership waiting to take office. Next year we celebrate our 75th anniversary and hope to celebrate the occasion with plans being put forward.

What a fabulous evening had by all. Congratulations to Stephan Jansen on becoming our Worshipful Master for the pursuing year and the installing Master Ray Armstead for such a wonderful Ritual. We look forward to the year ahead with all offices filled with light Blues. The meeting and festive board were both well attended. We would also like to thank our DPGM and his escorts and to Ian Gallehawk on his splendid photographs :)
